    In 2011 John was appointed by the Governor of the state of Vermont to serve as a member of the Vermont
    Economic Development Authority, Vermont's economic development finance lender.  VEDA has provided over
    $1.7 billion in financing assistance to thousands of eligible Vermont entrepreneurs, manufacturers, small businesses
    and agricultural enterprises, helping them to realize their business growth goals, create jobs, and enhance the

    Since 2007 John has worked as a Senior Advisor to  Broad Cove Partners.  Combining expertise in finance and real
    estate, and a proven ability to work effectively with local partners in challenging environments, Broad Cove acts as a
    bridge between international capital sources and high-potential, housing-related initiatives in frontier markets. The firm's

    He is also a member of the Global Advisory Board of Millennium Associates, a Swiss- based specialist investment
    banking firm. Millenium Associates specializes in investment banking transactions for the wealth management and asset

    John served until 2010 as a trustee of the University of Vermont.  As a member of the Board of Trustees he
    participated in all activities of the board's supervision of the university with special emphasis on the investment
    committee, the audit committee and the educational policy and institutional resource committee.  To learn more about the

    Until the end of 2010, John was the principal owner and Chairman of Bristol Tours, Inc., a charter bus and tour
    operator with operations based in Bristol, Vermont.  Bristol Tours operates a fleet of luxury motor coaches providing

    Prior Work History

    In 2003 John retired as Vice Chairman of State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the world’s largest institutional investment
    management firm.  His management responsibilities included strategic and financial planning and human resources as
    well as general and investment oversight of the alternatives asset classes (real estate, hedge funds, private equity).  He
    was responsible for SSgA’s Global Alliance subsidiaries including its emerging markets specialist firms Rexiter Capital
    Management (London), Pallada Asset Management (Moscow), European Direct Capital Management (Warsaw) and
    Asian Direct Capital Management (Hong Kong and Bangkok).  He chaired the investment committees of the Arirang and
    Mukoongwha Corporate Restructuring funds (Korea), the Thai Recovery Fund, and the Korea Venture Fund.  Other
    Global Alliance companies included real estate specialist The Tuckerman Group, advanced quantitative specialist AIP and
    hedge fund specialist SSARIS.  He was a member of the Executive Committee and Investment Committee at SSgA, and
    was an Executive Vice President and member of the Strategy Steering Committee of the parent company, State Street
    Corporation (STT).

    Before joining SSgA in 1996, John was President of NatWest Investment Management, Inc., Director and Executive
    Vice President of NatWest Markets, Inc., and Deputy Chief Executive of NatWest Asset Managers. He was a founding
    director and the Chief Executive Officer of PanAgora Asset Management, Inc. (Boston)  and PanAgora Asset
    Management Limited (London). John began his career in banking and investments with The Boston Company, Inc.
    where he served in a number of senior management roles including Senior Vice President and Director of Strategic
    Planning, Managing Director of the U.K. banking subsidiary and Director of Marketing for the institutional businesses.

    Prior to his career in banking and investments, John had work experience at IBM with roles in marketing and systems
    engineering.  He also worked as an Admissions Counselor for the University of Vermont.  He also served as a Peace
    Corps volunteer in Sierra Leone specializing in agricultural development.

    Educational Background

    John received his B.A. in Classics from the University of Vermont  in 1974.  He graduated summa cum laude, was
    elected to Phi Beta Kappa and was the recipient of the Kidder medal and the Corse Fellowship.  He attended graduate
    school in Classical Philology at Princeton University with no degree.
